I remember 65 years ago when the cold winter 1944/45 was over and our veterans were getting ready to make the last BIG push across the Rhine R iver and were glad to get out of Nijmegen w h ere they spend a lot of time looking at the Northern part of Holland which was still occupied. Can you just imag in e a 19 year old who already went through the battles of Africa, Italy or Normandy and now was holed up knowing that there was one more big task they had to finish to make this a better world?
And we were just 50 km away from Nijmegen were living without heat, power and enough food , we were laying in our beds listening to the drone of bombers going overhead and the stuttering of V1's going past our town and you just prayed that the thing just would keep on going and not hit us.
Mother would make meals of whatever we had scrounged or got from neighbouring farmers like a little bag full of wheat, some sugar beets, Onions, (oh boy what she could do with onions over mashed potatoes) which we had a box full of in the cellar. The same cellar where we spend a few days in April when the war came really to town and those young Canadians liberated us.
So I am looking forward to May when I hope All of us will celebrate the 65th anniversary of VE day and make sure we put our veterans in the spotlight and once again thank them for their contribution and sacrifices and remember those who are no longer with us. Now back to our local events . Our ladies had a good night last Wednesday at their dart tournament and here are the results: Team 1 took 5 games, 2-3, 3-5, 4-4, 5-4 ; and team 6 took 9 games (Wow)!

The manager complained at the staff meeting that the workers did not respected him enough. And the next days he brought in a sign which read `I AM THE BOSS `and attached it to his office door. When he came back from lunch someone had attached a note to the sign which read........... `Your wife called and .......... SHE WANTS HER SIGN BACK!!!!!!!!!!'
To all our comrades sick at home, in the hospital or nursing homes you are in our thoughts and prayers and we wish you well.
