March Is Red Cross Month!
The Canadian Red Cross will be hosting a “Come & Go” Open House on Tuesday, March 16th from noon to 3 p.m. at the Wawa Goose Club (the Seniors Centre on Broadway). Join us in celebrating and thanking all our wonderful volunteers, clients, and the community members who support the Red Cross. Red Cross’ unique ability to mobilize its vast network of volunteers and staff enables the organization to respond at a moment’s notice, whether the call for help comes from within Canada or from across the world.
In Wawa the Red Cross provides services for seniors and disabled adults. Snow Removal and Yard Work, along with Meals on Wheels, Transportation and Home Help are just some of the programs that help seniors remain independent in their homes longer.
This month promises to be a very busy month with our Northern Raffle winding up. Tickets will not be available in Wawa past March 12. These $10 tickets can be purchased at the Red Cross office until then. Anyone wishing to purchase a ticket after the 12th can call 888-403-9046. The Northern Raffle will be held on March 31. First Prize is a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV or $25,000 cash, second prize is a 2010 Polaris Sportsman ATV and gift certificate valued at $9,000. Third prize will be 5 draws of $1,000. We wish to thanks to our sponsor JJAM FM who has been providing coverage for this important fundraiser.
Mayors for Meals, is an initiative to promote awareness of vulnerable members of our community who may not be able to access nutritious meals. Mayors across the province are invited to participate in the delivery of Meals during the Month of March. Plans are in the works for Mayor Whent to participate in this campaign locally.
“This March we are saying thanks to Canadians for their support and encouraging them to get to know their local Red Cross better,” says Community Services Coordinator, Darlene Trovarello. “Find out how the Red Cross is making a difference in your own community and what you can do to help.”
