From Wawa to Waterloo in a Cardboard Boat
Both teams from École Saint-Joseph (Wawa) made their mark during the regional Cardboard Boat Race competition in Thunday Bay on November 22-23. The secondary school team, made up of Démily Thibodeau-Bello, Patrick Chevrier, Aiden Laing and Kalev Trudeau won gold and qualified to compete at the provincial competition in Waterloo in March.
The team distinguished themselves by their capacity to build a quick and sturdy cardboard boat. Their vessel navigated a distance of 25 meters in 17.12 seconds and carried a load of 280 kilograms. The Cardboard Boat Race competition, organized by Skills Canada, is set to continue next week in Espanola where several other Conseils scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario schools will be vying for their spot at the provincial competition.
