(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) -Safe Communities and Algoma Power Inc. in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Sault Ste Marie Police Service (SSMPS),Anishinabek Police Service, and Batchewana Police Service, are looking for youth who are "playing safe". Through this program, youth are encouraged to develop positive safety habits by wearing the proper protective equipment while enjoying outdoor activities such as riding their bicycles, roller blading, and skate boarding and general outdoor activities.
Police officers on patrol will be on the lookout for children who are playing safely and are obeying all the safety rules. An officer will present them with a certificate and also a coupon courtesy of Algoma Office Equipment that can be redeemed for an ice cream treat courtesy of Timberland General Store, Lock City Diaries, Holy Cow's Ice Cream Parlor, Big Arrow Variety, The Store at Noel's Place and Young's General Store in Wawa.
Youth can also drop off their ballot at these locations for a chance to win one of 10 bikes donated by Algoma Power Inc. Canadian Tire is donating a helmet for each bike won.
The winners are then presented with their bike at their school at the beginning of the new school year in September.
The play safe program wants all children to have a happy and safe summer!
