Wynne where is the Equality?
Northern Ontario Party
Kathleen Wynne over the last year has stated that her government was focused on creating equality and fairness across the province. Unfortunately, some areas in Ontario appear to be more equal than others.
Although Ms. Wynne won’t state she favors the GTA, her actions definitely point to it. For example, the Liberals are advocating for a fast train to be built between the GTA and Windsor, while Northern Ontario is only promised a slightly expanded bus service.
Ms.Wynne keeps boasting how great the economy is in Ontario, but when one looks at the numbers, you find that Toronto and the GTA are doing great, while the rest of the province suffers from high unemployment. Furthermore, the jobless rate gets worse the farther away from Toronto one looks.
Not only does Northerners suffer a higher unemployment rate, but the citizens of Northern Ontario also experience a higher percentage of premature deaths, are at higher risk of obesity and experience more poverty than those in the GTA.
We have to work harder to get an adequate education, our students have to leave earlier, travel farther and get home later, just to receive an education that gives them lower results than their southern counterparts.
In addition, our citizens also experience fewer health care options and poorer highways while paying more for gas, electricity, and groceries.
Trevor Holliday states that the media likes to call us a separatist party, but we didn’t create this divide. Wynne and her government’s prolonged ignorance of Northern Ontario have led to this feeling of alienation. Northerners are tired of the government’s neglect and are demanding equality. They are tired of paying more and getting less. Being a Northerner shouldn’t mean dying younger or having a lower quality of life, especially when you have a Premier stating equality and fairness for all citizens of Ontario.
This is why The NOP was created to give Northerners a voice, our party believes Northerners need a better deal.
